It was a very challenging experience for her both mentally and physically. "I knew I didn't like where I was" recalls Joanna.
Being a mother of two little ones it was a very frustrating time for her. Apart from her own health she was also concerned about the well being of her children. She didn't want her children to become lethargic. But she knew if she wasn't healthy herself she wont be able to motivate her child become one.

It was time for some drastic changes. Flipping through the magazines she discovered some fitness models who had also gone through the same conditions like her. And she just decided to give it a shot.Though she was actually a admirer of weight exercises she never had designed a routine for herself. "The stories were so cool and amazing. So many women overcame such crazy obstacles that I found it so motivating and helpful. I thought, if they could do it with all the challenges, what was stopping me?”.

She used internet to a great deal to find out more about diets and exercises. She also realized the importance of having a protein rich diet. “I started with eating scrambled egg whites with a pinch of cheese”.  She also added salmon, broccoli, and protein bar into her daily diet.

One of the major obstacle that Joanna faced was that she could not afford a professional trainer or a gym. She picked up dumbbells, resistant bands from some stores and started the moves she learned on YouTube.

“I would do dumbbell flies in my living room”. She recalls.

The biggest hurdle you need to overcome is your mental barrier. And Joanna soon realized that. “There were times where I was like, why am I even doing this? But deep down I knew I wanted to feel that energy again that I had in high school.”

Eventually she got habituated to her new diet and started to avoid the unhealthy routine altogether. Within three years she lost 45 pounds.

Her Advice:

According to her, to lose weight you need to change your mindset. “It's learning to be honest with yourself that is the key."
